The Government on 31 August announced the allocation of £8.6
billion funding to local authorities, housing associations and
registered providers that will deliver around 119,000 homes,
including 57,000 for ownership, 29,600 for social rent and 6,250
affordable rural homes with new strategic partnerships - made up of
councils, housing associations and private providers - successfully
bidding for their share of programme funding. The £8.6 billion
funding allocations are taken from the previously announced £11.5 billion Affordable Housing Programme
(AHP) which aims to deliver up to 180,000 new affordable
homes over the next 5 years "should economic conditions allow".
Nearly £5.2 billion of the £8.6 billion package will be
delivered outside London through Homes England, the government body
responsible for housing delivery, and the Greater London Authority
(GLA) will deliver homes within London.
The Homes England allocation of almost £5.2bn in affordable
housing grant will go to 31 strategic partnerships with 35
organisations including a broad range of organisations with 4
"for-profit providers", including one developer, as well as a
number of housing associations. Together, they will deliver nearly
90,000 grant-funded affordable homes outside London. Further
details of the strategic partnerships and individual allocations is
available on the Homes England webpage.
