ARCH members praised for contribution to building new homes 11/11/2016

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, praised ARCH members, London Boroughs of Croydon and Wandsworth, among others, for their contribution to building new homes in response to a question at London Mayor's Question Time regarding the building of council housing (Question 2016/3849 - council house building and social inequality).

The Mayor commented that one third of London's shift workers live in social housing - carers, cleaners, those who operate blue-light services, all people who provide essential services in the capital. The Mayor went on to say that London's economy would struggle without the vital role that social and council housing plays and emphasised the need to make sure councils can make their contribution to building new homes.

The Mayor referred to "some fantastic examples of London Boroughs doing just that" quoting ARCH members Croydon & Wandsworth councils as examples and going on to say he would continue to make the case for councils to be allowed greater freedom to invest more in building new homes.
