ARCH continues to make the case for council housing. We worked
with the NFA to make a joint submission to the Treasury ahead of
the Autumn Statement in November. Chancellor Philip Hammond is
expected to adjust spending plans to reflect post-referendum
circumstances and the new Government's priorities.
The Treasury set a tight timescale and deadline of 7 October for
representations
on the upcoming Autumn Statement. In our submission we welcome the
government's renewed commitment to delivering a million new homes
by 2020. We argue that, with adjustments in Government policy,
councils could make a big contribution both in enabling new
house-building and by themselves building more homes both inside
and outside HRAs.
