ARCH to meet Minister for Welfare Reform 08/12/2016

Councillor Paul Ellis, ARCH chair, and John Bibby, ARCH chief executive, together with our colleagues from the National Federation of ALMOs (NFA) have been invited to meet Minister for Welfare Reform, Lord Freud, in his office on 14 December.

The meeting follows on from two previous meetings with the Minister held to discuss the findings of the ARCH/NFA Welfare Reform Survey. This survey identified significant increases in rent arrears for those tenants transferring onto the new Universal Credit system.

As a result of this survey, the Minister had previously announced, in the House of Lords, a review by the Department for Work and Pensions into the high incidence of Universal Credit claimants falling into arrears of rent.

The findings of the most recent ARCH/NFA Survey will be available soon.

Lord Freud has announced his retirement from the government with effect from the end of December and ARCH will seek to continue the dialogue on welfare reform at Ministerial level with his successor.
