Completion of new homes down in last quarter 02/03/2017

Latest figures from the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) show that new build completions for the quarter ending 31 December 2016 were 4% lower than the previous quarter and 2% lower than the same period in 2015. However, new build starts were up 5% on the previous quarter and 13% up on the same period in 2015.

 

Annual new build dwelling starts in England (all tenures) totalled 153,370 in the year to December 2016, up by 5% compared with the year to December 2015. During the same period new build completions totalled 140,660 - a decrease of 1% compared with the previous year. Private enterprise new build completions were 3% higher than the previous year while completions by housing associations decreased by 20% on an annual basis.

 

Included in the above figures, new build stats by local authorities in the year to December 2016 totalled 1,840 and during the same period new build completions by local authorities totalled 2,080 dwellings.
