Council role in building new homes for sale and market rent 29/09/2016

We continue to meet with officials from DCLG and as part of its new emphasis on increasing the rate of housebuilding, the DCLG is interested to know how far councils have the ambition and capacity to build homes for sale and market rent as well as homes for social and affordable rent.

DCLG officials are interested in exploring the scope for initiatives to encourage and support this.

Work is at an early stage but on a tight timetable, potentially with a view to announcements in the Autumn Statement. We're in contact with DCLG on this and will keep member authorities informed of developments.

If your council has set up a Local Housing Company or is exploring ways of building homes for market rent or for sale please let us know by emailing ARCH Policy Adviser, Matthew Warburton, on Matthew.Warburton@arch-housing.org.uk.
