The House of Commons Library has produced an excellent
briefing paper on the government's proposals to extend the Right to
Buy (RTB) to housing association tenants.
It provides a comprehensive history of the RTB policy
since its introduction in 1980, sets out the current government's
latest proposals and comments on extending the RTB in
- Estimates of eligible tenants
- Financing the extension and replacing homes sold
- Sale of charitable assets,
- Lenders views.
The briefing paper will be of use to council staff and elected
members in providing a summary of the government's proposals as
they currently stand.
