Latest figures from the Department for
Communities and Local Government show that in the period July to
September 2016 (Q2), councils sold 2,835 dwellings under the Right
to Buy (RTB) - a decrease of 3% from the 2,941 sold in the same
quarter of 2015/16.
Sales in London fell by 21% from the 912 sold in the same
quarter of 2015/16 to an estimated 718 in Q2 of 2016/17. Sales in
London accounted for 25% of all sales in the quarter compared to
31% of sales recorded in the same quarter of 2016/16.
Despite the falling numbers of sales capital receipts from RTB,
sales in Q2 2016/17 were 6% higher than the same period in the
The average receipt per dwelling sold in 2016/17 Q2 was £86,000
compared to £78,000 in the same quarter of 2015/16.
RTB sales in the first quarter of 2016/17 were up on the same
period in the previous year and RTB sales in first two quarters of
2016/17 total 6,224 compared to the total of 5,720 in the first two
quarters of 2015/16.
