Quarter 2 Right to Buy sales fall by 3% 08/12/2016

Latest figures from the Department for Communities and Local Government show that in the period July to September 2016 (Q2), councils sold 2,835 dwellings under the Right to Buy (RTB) - a decrease of 3% from the 2,941 sold in the same quarter of 2015/16.

 

Sales in London fell by 21% from the 912 sold in the same quarter of 2015/16 to an estimated 718 in Q2 of 2016/17. Sales in London accounted for 25% of all sales in the quarter compared to 31% of sales recorded in the same quarter of 2016/16.

 

Despite the falling numbers of sales capital receipts from RTB, sales in Q2 2016/17 were 6% higher than the same period in the previous year.

 

The average receipt per dwelling sold in 2016/17 Q2 was £86,000 compared to £78,000 in the same quarter of 2015/16.

 

RTB sales in the first quarter of 2016/17 were up on the same period in the previous year and RTB sales in first two quarters of 2016/17 total 6,224 compared to the total of 5,720 in the first two quarters of 2015/16.
