Latest figures from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG) show that, following the Grenfell fire, 46 high rise residential buildings managed by local authorities and housing associations have finished remediation work to remove Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) cladding systems.

A further 112 residential buildings identified as having ACM cladding and managed by local authorities and housing associations are yet to be remediated. However, of the 112:

  • 89 have started remediation works
  • 22 have a remediation plan in place awaiting commencement of works
  • 1 has reported an intent to remediate and is developing remediation plans.

The picture in the private sector is less positive and the report highlights that 226 private sector buildings (166 private residential, 26 student accommodation and 31 hotels) with ACM cladding are yet to be remediated: Of the 226 private sector buildings:

  • 16 have started remediation works
  • 126 have a remediation plan in place awaiting commencement of works
  • 37 have reported an intent to remediate and are developing remediation plans
  • 47 buildings remain with unclear remediation plans - however this number has fallen from over 200 buildings in June 2018.

There also remain 15 private sector buildings where the cladding status is still to be confirmed.
