Review of Building Regulations & Fire Safety – Call for evidence 14/09/2017 Labelled as Scrutiny, Regulation, Tenants

The Independent Review of Building Regulations & Fire Safety led by Dame Judith Hackitt has issued a call for evidence.

The Independent Review was announced by government in July 2017 following the Grenfell Tower tragedy.  Its purpose is to make recommendations that will ensure a sufficiently robust regulatory system for the future and to provide further assurance to residents that the complete system is working to ensure the buildings they live in are safe and remain so. It will examine building and fire safety regulations and related compliance and enforcement. The focus will be on multi occupancy high rise residential buildings.

The Review will report jointly to Communities Secretary Sajid Javid and Home Secretary Amber Rudd. An interim report will be submitted in autumn 2017 and a final report submitted in spring 2018.

The Review has issued a Call for Evidence and is particularly interested in hearing from respondents on aspects of the current regulatory system that are working well and aspects that could be reformed to enhance fire safety.

The Call for Evidence sets out 10 specific questions on aspects of the Review including a specific question as to whether there is an effective means for tenants and other residents to raise concerns about the fire safety of their dwellings and what change might be required to ensure tenants/residents voices on fire safety can be heard in future.

Responses should be submitted by 13 October 2017 to:
