Sheffield City Council on new Social Sector Engagement Best Practice Group 21/03/2019 Labelled as Development, Tenants

ARCH member, Sheffield City Council has been selected to participate in a new Social Sector (Building Safety) Engagement Best Practice Group, established by MHCLG to take forward the recommendations in the Hackitt Report and the Social Housing Green Paper.

 

The new group will bring 8 social landlords and their respective residents together to ensure residents are given a stronger voice in communicating approaches to building safety within social housing.

 

The full membership of the Social Sector (Building Safety) Engagement Best Practice Group is as follows:

 

  • Victoria Elvidge (Chair)
  • Chelmer Housing Partnership
  • Clarion Housing Group
  • Optivo
  • Phoenix Community Housing
  • Poole Housing Partnership
  • Sheffield City Council
  • Stockport Homes Group
  • Your Homes Newcastle
  • Tim Birchall, fire safety technical officer for Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service
  • Paul Everall, Chief Executive of the Local Authority Building Control

 

A resident from each organisation will also be a member of the Group.

 

The Chair of the Group (Victoria Elvidge) is a board member of LEASE - the Leasehold Advisory Service. The group will meet monthly for the next 6 months as a pilot. A decision on its future will then be taken accordingly.

 

The principal aims of the Best Practice Group will be to:

 

  • build on existing social sector expertise in working closely with residents
  • develop best practice in the fields of engagement and communication with residents
  • inform future policy development
  • consider how approaches to resident engagement with regards to fire and building safety could be applied to other tenures
