Social housing stock falls by 0.5% as a result of sales 27/10/2016

Latest figures from the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) show that sales of social housing in England in 2015/16 amounted to some 0.5% of the social housing stock.

 

In 2015/16, there were 21,992 sales of social housing dwellings by councils and Private Registered Providers (housing associations) including:

 

  • 12,557 sales by councils, mostly as a result of the sale of 12,246 dwellings under the Right to Buy
  • 9.435 sales by private registered providers most of which were as a result of sales to the private sector.

 

Council housing sales increased by 1% overall with Right to Buy sales being similar to the sales in the previous year. Sales under the Right to Buy had an average discount of 45% of the market price.

 

Sales by Private Registered Providers were up by 18% on the previous year.
