In our last
Bulletin, we highlighted that all too often the media
and others portray council tenants and council housing in a
negative way and explained how a group of social landlords, tenants
and others have come together to tackle the unfair and unhelpful
stereotyping of social housing tenants.
Jenny Hill, Chair of the ARCH tenants group and Carole Halfacre,
ARCH tenants group facilitator attended one of the first meetings
of this gathering of social housing tenants and landlords, TPAS
(Tenant Participation Advisory Service) and the NFA (National
Federation of Almos) to explore what can be done working
collaboratively to change peoples' negative perceptions
of social housing. Most of the Landlords present were
from housing associations but the Steering Group are keen to
involve councils in this interesting project.
For more information about the next meeting on
25 October in Manchester please email rreeve@progressgroup.org.uk
and if your council is interested in learning more about the
campaign contact Richard Peacock CEO of Soha Housing rpeacock@soha.co.uk.
In consultation with the ARCH Tenant Group, the ARCH Board will
be considering how best to support and promote this important
campaign.
