On 13 December 2023, DLUHC launched a consultation on plans for achieving the Future Homes Standard and Future Buildings Standard, which will require that new homes will meet much more stringent requirements on energy use. It sets out technical proposals for changes to the Building Regulations, the associated approved document guidance and calculation methods. Most of the proposals apply only to newly built homes, but a few will apply to existing buildings, for example where there is a change of use.

The consultation closes on 6 March 2024.
