In January the Government consulted on plans to reform the rules for allocating council housing, as reported in ARCH Bulletin 229. It proposed to reform council housing allocations policy by restricting allocations to applicants with a UK connection, a minimum 2-year local connection and an income below a threshold to be defined. The consultation paper also proposed new grounds for evicting existing tenants convicted of terrorism offences or anti-social behaviour.
On 2 September the new Government announced that it will not be taking these proposals forward. The full response to the consultation can be read here.
