The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) is consulting on heat network zoning. Heat network zones will be areas where heat networks are expected to provide the lowest cost, low carbon heating, and will ensure more homes and businesses can have access to greener, cheaper heat. The consultation covers topics such as how heat network zoning will be co-ordinated locally, the types of building’s that could be required to connect to heat networks and how zone opportunities will be taken to market. The consultation closes on 26 February.

DESNZ wants to explore local authorities’ understanding of the policy, interest in connecting buildings to heat networks and what information is needed when making these types of decisions. The department is working with an independent research agency, Verian, to run 90-minute sessions in February to listen to the views of people in local authorities who make decisions about heating. If you are interested in participating, please email marios.zampetis@veriangroup.com, ideally by 29th January. Marios will be able to answer any questions about the content and logistics of the research.
